Principal Software Engineer - Revenue Hub at HubSpot — remote job on CafeRemote

HubSpot is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for Revenue Hub, the team building the systems businesses use to sell, bill, get paid, and manage revenue inside HubSpot. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who writes code regularly and also owns architecture across CPQ, Billing, Payments, and Revenue OS. It is based in the United States.

Revenue Hub handles billions of dollars in transactions, so correctness, clarity, and predictability matter. The goal is a single connected revenue flow — Contact to Deal to Quote to Order to Contract to Invoice to Payment to Reconciliation — so revenue context is available across the business.

What you will do

  • Shape the technical roadmap across CPQ, Billing, and Payments with strong, opinionated patterns.
  • Define and evolve core domain models so pricing, products, contracts, invoices, and payments behave predictably in the UI, over the API, and inside agent-driven workflows.
  • Design API and platform contracts that let developers, partners, and AI agents extend Revenue Hub without coupling to internals.
  • Create frameworks that make the platform easy to extend without adding complexity.
  • Write code regularly, lead design reviews, and build high-impact systems end-to-end.
  • Own large multi-team initiatives that span CPQ, Billing, and Payments, and take prototypes to production at scale.
  • Set patterns for extensibility, contract boundaries, financial correctness, event-driven consistency, and how AI agents safely interact with commerce objects.
  • Push for simplicity where the domain wants to get complicated, and consistency where surfaces can drift.
  • Influence product strategy across CPQ, Buyer Portal, and Revenue OS, and help teams make clear tradeoffs between speed, correctness, compliance, and long-term platform health.
  • Mentor senior engineers and tech leads, guide learnings from incidents and large migrations, and help teams align on patterns that reduce complexity and increase reliability.

What they are looking for

  • Proven experience building and scaling distributed systems with strict correctness requirements.
  • Strong instincts for API and platform design, including having built things external teams depend on.
  • Background working with complex state machines, financial flows, or high-integrity data models.
  • Familiarity with agentic systems and what it means for AI to safely act on structured data, not just read it.
  • The ability to work horizontally across many teams and get alignment on platform patterns.
  • A habit of turning ambiguity into clear plans and working software, and staying hands-on every step of the way.

Pay

The annual cash compensation range is $266,200 to $425,900 USD. This includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot's bonus plan for eligible roles. Some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot's equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs), and some roles may be eligible for overtime pay. Individual packages are tailored to skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

Location and onboarding

HubSpot values both flexibility and connection. Whether you are a remote employee or work from an office, you will start by building connections with your team and peers. Engineering hires are required to attend a regional HubSpot office for in-person onboarding. Product team members also attend other in-person events, such as the Product Group Summit. If you need an accommodation due to travel limitations or other reasons, inform your recruiter during the hiring process.
