Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Product Design Manager to lead the Design function within the EPD organization at Tailscale.

Design is integral to ensuring Tailscale remains accessible and trustworthy for a diverse audience. You will collaborate with Engineering and Product leaders to champion a user-first culture, enhancing the quality and thoughtfulness of our end-user experience. Your leadership will help Product Designers refine their craft, uphold high-quality design standards, and maintain brand consistency across our platform, working alongside UX Research and Brand Design.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Manage a team of 4+ Product Designers, fostering an inclusive and supportive culture.
  
  
• Lead design team rituals such as critiques, workshops, and offsites.
  
  
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring seamless engagement between design and other teams.
  
  

User Experience & Product Design Advocacy

• Advocate for end-user needs in new feature development and workflow improvements.
  
  
• Identify and address gaps in design processes to improve team efficiency.
  
  
• Define and enforce quality and consistency standards for the product experience.
  
  

Mentorship & Growth

• Coach and mentor designers to enhance their skills and career growth.
  
  
• Lead by example, guiding the team in adopting new design methodologies and practices.
  
  

What We Are Looking For

Experience & Expertise

• Proven experience as both an Individual Contributor (IC) Product Designer and a leader of design teams.
  
  
• Background in B2B software design, particularly within technical or unfamiliar domains.
  
  
• Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach to guiding and implementing new design practices.

US Pay Range:

💰 $189,000 - $236,000 USD
