Investment Tax Specialist

Symetra is hiring an Investment Tax Specialist to work on its Corporate Tax team. The role centers on investment tax compliance, accounting, planning, and research, and it supports tax and investment processes across the company. This is a remote or hybrid full-time position open to candidates in the United States.

What you will do

• Perform investment tax liability and provision calculations and reporting
• Manage federal income tax compliance for investments, including returns, K-1s, accounting methods, and planning for new investments
• Ensure effective tax controls and accurate, consistent investment tax analytics
• Streamline and optimize investment tax data and reporting processes
• Partner with Investment Accounting and cross-functional teams to deliver reporting
• Identify and communicate investment tax planning opportunities to leadership
• Conduct tax research and advise on domestic and international investment matters
• Coordinate with external advisors and review alternative investment structures for tax considerations

What they are looking for

• A high school diploma is required; a BA/BS in a related field is preferred
• 10–15 years of experience in investment tax, corporate tax, or a related area
• Proven experience with investment tax liability, provision calculations, and reporting
• Strong knowledge of federal income tax compliance for investments, including returns, K-1s, and accounting methods
• Ability to maintain effective tax controls and ensure accurate, consistent investment tax analytics
• Experience optimizing investment tax data and reporting processes
• A track record as a trusted partner to Investment Accounting and cross-functional teams
• Skill in identifying and communicating investment tax planning opportunities to leadership
• Experience conducting tax research on domestic and international investments and working with external advisors

Pay and benefits

The salary range is $128,700 to $214,600 per year, plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Symetra offers flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements. The 401(k) plan has immediate vesting and company matching up to 6%. Paid time away includes vacation, sick time, flex days, and ten paid holidays. The company also has a matching program for community giving.

Work authorization and remote requirements

Employer work visa sponsorship and support are not provided for this role. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at hire and must maintain authorization throughout employment.

Symetra is a remote-first organization with internet standards for employees. The minimum connection speed is 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. Permitted connection types are fiber, cable, or DSL. Satellite, cellular broadband, other wireless technology, and wired dial-up are not permitted. Applicants will be asked to test their internet speed and confirm it meets or exceeds the standard.

Identity verification

After the initial phone screen, candidates must be on video for all interviews. Symetra takes steps at key points in the process to verify that a candidate is not seeking employment fraudulently, such as through a false identity. Failure to comply with verification procedures may result in disqualification from the recruitment process, withdrawal of a job offer, or termination of employment and other criminal or civil remedies if fraud is discovered.
