Role: Senior Backend Engineer 

We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing SaaS engineering team. You’ll report directly to the Director of Engineering and play a key role in building a scalable, reliable, secure, and customizable platform. 

We're looking for someone deeply technical, curious about modern systems, and passionate about designing high-performance backend architectures that will define the future of our product. 

Proton partners with Oyster HR to hire international teammates as full-time, long-term contractors. 

Salary Range: USD $50,000–$70,000, depending on experience.  

What You’ll Do 

• Lead backend feature development and guide the Product team on technical trade-offs
  
  
• Build across the full stack, taking features from concept to production
  
  
• Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, frontend, and DevOps teams on architectural decisions
  
  
• Customize the platform for enterprise clients with complex needs
  
  
• Contribute to high-performance, reliable system architecture, ensuring scalability and security
  
  
• Shape data flow, system design, and backend best practices across the organization
  
  

You’ll Be a Great Fit If You Have:
 

• 7+ years building scalable SaaS applications (startup experience preferred)
  
  
• 5+ years in backend development — Python or Go preferred (C# or Java also acceptable)
  
  
• A strong track record of designing secure, enterprise-grade architectures
  
  
• Deep experience with cloud-native environments, databases, and scalable systems
  
  
• A passion for learning new technologies and evaluating modern frameworks
  
  
• Experience in enterprise applications and B2B platforms
  
  
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse teams
