Backend Product Software Engineer
Dropbox · Remote - Mexico · posted 18 hours ago
Dropbox is hiring a Backend Product Software Engineer to work on its suite of products, with a focus on collaboration and file sharing. The role is remote in Mexico. You would work with product managers, designers, and analysts to turn ideas into features, and this year the company is working to speed up creation and deployment of AI-enabled products through an AI technology stack used for prototyping and deployment.
What you will do
- Identify and deliver software solutions independently, through milestones spanning a single product focus or a multi-component system.
- Write code alongside junior engineers, with hands-on technical leadership, finding root causes and leading by example.
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and analysts to understand user needs and build products that meet them.
- Develop and carry out short- and long-term roadmaps, balancing business impact, user experience, and technical quality.
- Support team and company culture through mentorship, taking part in interviews, and involvement in new initiatives.
- Build relationships with other engineering teams and work with other functions across Dropbox.
On-call work may be needed occasionally to address bugs, outages, or other operational issues, so customers keep a stable, high-quality experience.
What they are looking for
- 5+ years of software engineering or related industry experience.
- A BS in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding (such as physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
- A track record of identifying and delivering software solutions through milestones spanning a specific product focus or a multi-component system.
- Experience developing and shipping large-scale web applications with a user-centric mindset.
- Proficiency building user-facing software and the supporting systems and libraries for web and/or desktop platforms.
Preferred qualifications
- Contributions to open source projects or technical communities.
- Full-stack development experience.
- Experience with MySQL, Python, Go, Java, or Rust.
Durable skills
Dropbox describes AI fluency as using these tools to amplify human judgment rather than replace it. The company says people with the following skills will do well as work and technology change:
- Awareness: understand yourself and others.
- Judgment: evaluate information and make decisions in complex situations.
- Adaptability: learn, adjust, and stay effective through change.
- Connection: communicate, collaborate, and build trust.
About the engineering framework
Dropbox publishes its Engineering Career Framework so anyone outside the company can see what is expected of engineers at each career level. The company also writes about this topic and others on its blog.
