Software Engineer (Senior-Staff)

Pattern Data is hiring a Software Engineer at the senior or staff level to work on an AI-powered platform for mass tort litigation. The role is for someone with at least eight years of software engineering experience who wants to work across the product lifecycle, from idea and design through shipping. You would join a small, high-ownership team building tools that leading US law firms use to automate case analysis and manage high-volume inventories.

What you will do

You will be involved throughout the product lifecycle, including idea generation, design, prototyping, execution, and shipping. You will communicate tradeoffs and help scope and shape projects alongside the product and executive teams. The products you build are deployed to legal teams at leading US law firms, and you would play a significant role in the growth of the business and the engineering team.

• Architect, design, and implement backend services, including the core API that powers data processing and the application
• Write code mostly in Scala
• Promote technical design and coding standards for the platform and product roadmaps
• Continually look for ways to improve the product's architecture, whether through direct changes or by building tools and components

Scala, TypeScript, PostgresQL, GraphQL, Elasticsearch, and AWS.

What they are looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or related practical experience
• The ability to analyze a business need and select the most appropriate technical solution
• Experience working in or with start up teams
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining backend APIs, preferably in a team lead role
• Production experience or demonstrated interest in strongly-typed modern functional programming
• Experience with data structures, database optimization, cloud infrastructure, and message queues
• 8+ years experience in Software Engineering
• Curiosity and enthusiasm for tackling tough problems and delivering effective solutions
• Great communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Passion for solving complex problems

Pay and benefits

The estimated base salary range for this role is $160,000-$220,000 per year, plus bonus and benefits. Base salary is one part of the total compensation package, which also includes performance-based incentives, benefits, and other rewards. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, geographical location, and internal equity across the team. If the scope of the role changes during the hiring process, Pattern Data says it will update and communicate any adjusted range.
