Senior Software Engineer, Compute Platform

Replit is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Compute Platform team. This role is for distributed systems engineers who want to work on application deployment and cloud infrastructure.

What you will do

• Launch new cloud products that Replit Agent uses to build complex apps, working with cross-functional teams to design and implement them.
• Find bottlenecks, optimize critical paths, and build monitoring and alerting systems. You will work closely with the SRE team on availability and downtime.
• Analyze infrastructure costs and find ways to reduce cloud expenses without hurting performance or reliability. The listing names resource provisioning, auto-scaling, cost-aware scheduling, and data lifecycle management as possible techniques.
• Help customers scale their applications as their user base grows.

What they are looking for

• Distributed systems: a track record with platform-as-a-service, distributed storage, or information retrieval systems, plus experience designing scalable architectures and optimizing for latency or cost.
• Problem-solving: you approach complex challenges pragmatically and "think radically but ship incrementally."

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud infrastructure or platform products, especially application deployment, serverless computing, or container orchestration.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services such as GCE, GKE, Cloud Run, or Cloud Storage.
• Contributions to open-source projects related to cloud technologies, deployment frameworks, or developer tools.

This role may not be a fit if

• You are a generalist backend engineer who has not built scalable distributed systems.
• You cannot take part in an on-call rotation of at least six people.
• You do not enjoy working on Linux internals.

Location and pay

This is a full-time role based in the Foster City, CA office, with a hybrid schedule requiring three days in office: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Pay ranges from $130K to $290K, with equity and a performance-based bonus.
