The Role: Backend Engineer (Python) 

We’re looking for a talented Backend Engineer with deep Python expertise to help scale MindsDB’s AI analytics platform. In this role, you’ll design, build, and optimize backend systems that unify diverse data sources and power our cognitive engine at massive scale. 

You’ll work closely with a world-class team that values open source, scalability, and developer-first design, empowering thousands of community users and enterprise clients to make faster, smarter decisions through AI. 

📍 Location: Remote or Hybrid (Bay Area, SF)
🕓 Preferred Time Zones: GMT-5 to GMT-10  

Key Responsibilities 

• Design and implement scalable backend systems in Python for AI-driven data unification and analytics.
  
  
• Build robust APIs and integrations to connect structured and unstructured data sources.
  
  
• Collaborate with engineers and product teams to deliver efficient, enterprise-grade solutions.
  
  
• Ensure security, reliability, and performance across high-volume, distributed systems.
  
  
• Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to documentation and open-source projects.
  
  
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and community collaboration.

Requirements
 

• 4+ years of professional backend development experience.
  
  
• Advanced proficiency in Python and frameworks like FastAPI or Flask.
  
  
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and data modeling.
  
  
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases.
  
  
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  
  
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have:
 

• Background in AI/ML, MLOps, or developer tooling.
  
  
• Open source contribution experience.
  
  
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures or message queues.
  
  
• Prior experience in a startup environment.
