Lead Engineer (Tech Lead)
Jetpack Workflow United States
Lead Engineer (Tech Lead)

Jetpack Workflow is a leading B2B SaaS company serving accounting and bookkeeping firms. Our platform helps teams standardize, automate, and track their workflows so work gets done on time and nothing falls through the cracks. We enable firm owners to meet deadlines, monitor team performance, and grow their practices with confidence.

Location: Fully remote within the U.S. or Canada
Tech Stack: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Heroku, Scout, Bugsnag, HubSpot, Intercom, Slack, Linear, Figma

We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Engineer (Tech Lead) to guide our small but impactful Engineering team. In this role, you’ll drive delivery, own key technical decisions, and help shape the foundation of our product as we enter an exciting new growth phase.

This is not a people-management-only role. It’s a senior individual contributor position where you’ll be deeply involved in the work—writing technical tickets, scoping projects, unblocking engineers, reviewing code, and collaborating closely with the CEO and Product Lead on what we build next.

You’ll report directly to the CEO and oversee the Engineering function within the following structure:
CEO → Tech Lead, Product Lead, Customer Success Lead → Engineers

What You’ll Do

  • Set and raise the quality bar for engineering practices, processes, and code standards

  • Provide clear technical direction and performance expectations to the engineering team

  • Own and drive architectural and technical decisions across the core platform

  • Break down initiatives into well-defined technical tickets and delivery plans

  • Review code and contribute hands-on when needed

  • Partner closely with the CEO and Product Lead to shape future product initiatives

  • Share ownership of delivery timelines with the Product Lead

  • Create scalable processes that support fast execution while enabling long-term sustainability

  • Ensure engineering workflows in Slack, GitHub, and Linear are collaborative, transparent, and consistent

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Based in the U.S. or Canada (fully remote)

  • Availability to maintain core working hours between 10 AM – 2 PM EST

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Heroku

  • Proven ownership of production-grade Rails applications, including deployment, performance, infrastructure, and monitoring

  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

  • Experience working at an early-stage startup with fewer than 20 engineers

  • Prior experience leading teams, including hiring and holding teammates accountable

Benefits

  • 401(k) with employer matching (U.S.-based employees)

  • Flexible, take-what-you-need PTO plus all U.S. federal holidays

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage (U.S.-based employees)

  • For candidates based in Canada, the role is offered as a full-time contractor position
     (Benefits vary by location)

Hiring Process

  1. Product & Design interview (1 hour)

  2. Paid take-home assignment (2 hours)

  3. Technical interview (1 hour)

  4. Conversation with the CEO (30 minutes)

  5. Offer

A Note from Our Founder

This is a culture-shaping role for a 10-year-old company that’s entering a new “startup mode” as we build the next version of our product. We care deeply about solving real customer problems—not chasing flashy ideas. Our foundation was built by listening to hundreds of accounting firm owners and designing a simple, effective product that genuinely reduces their day-to-day pain.

We’re approaching the launch of our next major version, which feels like reaching base camp before a big climb. We’re ambitious but thoughtful. We’ve grown without relying heavily on venture capital, stayed profitable, and kept control of our direction. We want to innovate, enjoy the work, and build alongside smart, kind people. If that resonates with you, we’d love to talk.
