You’ll collaborate with teammates across multiple time zones and cultures, and you can explore our blog and Glassdoor reviews to learn more about life at Float.

We’re in a scale-up phase and looking for people who thrive in fast-growing environments. We want Float to be the place where you have the autonomy and opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Why We’re Hiring for This Role

As our customer base grows, so does the need for a stronger, more scalable data foundation. This newly created role sits at the intersection of engineering and data and will play a key part in improving data quality, scaling change data capture (CDC) pipelines, and strengthening our platform infrastructure.

You’ll work closely with Engineering, Analytics, and Intelligence teams to ensure we’re not only collecting the right data, but also using it to drive smarter decisions and better outcomes. While we’ve built strong foundations in product and analytics, platform-focused data engineering is the missing piece. This role will unlock new initiatives aligned with our 2026 strategy, including preparing for AI/RRE and evolving our reporting platform.

You’ll report to Roberto, our Senior Staff Engineer (Architecture), and collaborate with a talented, globally distributed team focused on solving complex problems in ways that feel simple and intuitive for customers.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Getting Started

  • Onboard into Float’s data ecosystem and understand how services, databases, and the data warehouse connect

  • Contribute to data quality initiatives such as the Talent Graph, improving accuracy and long-term usability

  • Support CDC initiatives including real-time transformations and implementing Data Contracts

As You Ramp Up

  • Take ownership of CDC pipelines and lead their evolution for long-term resilience

  • Drive platform-level data quality efforts, introducing observability and reducing regressions

  • Help maintain and evolve the data warehouse in partnership with the Data team

  • Propose and lead architectural improvements focused on scalability, consistency, and future platform needs

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Deep experience with CDC and event-driven architectures (e.g., Debezium, Kafka, Data Contracts)

  • Strong data infrastructure skills, including schema evolution, backfills, and pipeline reliability

  • Ability to lead technical initiatives independently in a remote, async-first environment

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with engineering and data partners

  • Clear written communication for design docs, runbooks, and async updates

  • Hands-on experience with modern tooling such as TypeScript services, Kafka, Debezium, cloud databases (MySQL, MongoDB, Neo4j), GCP, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and monitoring/alerting tools

  • Comfort working in an asynchronous, remote environment using tools like Slack, Loom, and Linear

Why Join Float

  • Compensation: US $169,442 (Level 3), with transparent salary philosophy

  • Global, async-first remote team with minimal meetings and deep focus time

  • Open culture of transparency: Our Float Handbook is public so you can see how we work

  • Values-driven company: Certified B Corp with a commitment to people, planet, and profit

  • Autonomy & impact: Real ownership over meaningful systems and long-term platform direction

Hiring Process

  • Application (3 short questions): Thoughtful responses matter more than quick ones

  • Intro Call (20 min): Meet our Talent Manager to discuss your interest and questions

  • Manager Interview (60 min): Deep dive with senior engineers

  • Take-Home Assignment (2 hours, paid): Practical, respectful of your time

  • Peer Interview (45 min): Meet teammates you’ll collaborate with
