Web Server Administrator

UrbanSoft SA is hiring a Web Server Administrator to manage, configure, and maintain web servers. The job is open worldwide. You would work with other IT staff to deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot server environments so websites and web applications keep running.

What you will do

• Configure and deploy web servers, including Apache, Nginx, or Microsoft IIS, based on project requirements.
• Install and configure server software, applications, and security settings.
• Set up load balancing and scalability solutions to handle different levels of web traffic.
• Monitor server performance and tune configurations for speed, efficiency, and resource use.
• Find and fix performance bottlenecks involving CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network issues.
• Implement caching and content delivery networks (CDNs) to improve website performance.
• Put in place and maintain security measures against malware, DDoS attacks, and unauthorized access.
• Configure firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and SSL/TLS certificates.
• Run regular security audits and apply patches and updates to close vulnerabilities.
• Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for web server environments.
• Perform regular backups of web data and configurations, and test restoration procedures.
• Watch server logs, performance metrics, and system alerts to catch and troubleshoot issues early.
• Investigate and resolve server incidents and service disruptions promptly.
• Work with development teams to diagnose and fix web application issues that affect server performance.
• Keep detailed documentation of server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Produce reports on server performance, uptime, and security incidents for management and stakeholders.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a web server administrator or in a similar role.
• Proficiency configuring and managing web servers such as Apache, Nginx, or Microsoft IIS.
• Strong understanding of web technologies, protocols, and standards (HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP).
• Experience with server-side scripting languages (for example PHP, Python, Perl) and database systems (for example MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Knowledge of security best practices and experience implementing security measures for web servers.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (for example Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus) and version control systems (for example Git).
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
• Experience with containerization technologies (for example Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (for example AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
• Knowledge of web application firewall (WAF) solutions and intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
• Experience with automated configuration management tools (for example Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Understanding of DevOps principles and practices.
