Director of Global Security Operations at MongoDB — remote job on CafeRemote

MongoDB's Global Security Organization is hiring a Director of Global Security Operations in Gurugram to build and lead its first dedicated team in India. This is a foundational leadership role: your first mandate is to stand up a 20-person team from scratch. The role is for someone who has hired and ramped technical teams quickly and can work inside a matrix structure without losing ownership of their own people.

What you will do

The India team's first mission is extending US-based teams in three areas:

  • Vulnerability management — AI-driven detection, triage and workflow management of vulnerabilities from code to components to applications to infrastructure
  • Launch readiness — shifting security analysis left to address security needs as far upstream from product launch as possible
  • Core enterprise security — projects improving protection against insider threats, plus new AI governance and security needs

Day to day, you will:

  • Recruit, hire and onboard a 20-person team including 3 managers across those three areas
  • Stand up the operating rhythms, tooling and documentation the India team needs to work as a first-class part of the organization from day one
  • Get new hires productively engaged quickly and working with required stakeholders
  • Manage matrix reporting actively, resolving competing priorities between local and functional leadership before they become the team's problem
  • Represent the India team's capacity, constraints and growth needs back to GSO leadership
  • Build the leadership bench and processes that let the India team operate as an accountable, outcome-owning part of GSO
  • Set clear goals and operating rhythms, coach and develop talent through regular candid feedback and career conversations, monitor team health and engagement, recognize strong performance, address performance concerns early and fairly, and communicate change with clarity and context

What they are looking for

  • 12+ years in security operations, security engineering or a related technical discipline, including at least 5 years in a people-leadership role
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Direct, hands-on experience in at least one of: vulnerability management, security automation or workflow tooling, or enterprise security operations
  • A track record of hiring and ramping a technical team quickly while holding the line on quality and culture
  • Experience operating in a matrix structure, with the judgment to manage dotted-line relationships while keeping ownership of your own team
  • Comfort with a mandate that will evolve as the team matures
  • Strong communication and relationship-building across geographies and time zones spanning the US, EMEA and India

The listing adds that candidates who don't meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply.

Nice to haves

  • Background in vulnerability management platforms, security orchestration and automation (SOAR) tooling, or enterprise security operations at scale
  • Prior experience in a matrix organization with international, distributed reporting lines

What success looks like

  • The India team is fully staffed and operating to MongoDB's standards for quality, pace and culture
  • You can step into direct delivery-level accountability rather than extending other teams' capabilities once the initial build phase is complete
  • The India team moves from a build-phase support function to owning clear, accountable delivery in vulnerability management, workflow automation and enterprise security

Location and company

MongoDB is looking to speak to candidates based in Gurugram for its hybrid working model. The company says it has offices worldwide and over 67,000 customers, including AI-native startups and approximately 75% of the Fortune 100. It describes employee support including affinity groups, fertility assistance and a parental leave policy, and states that it provides accommodations for individuals with disabilities during the application and interview process. MongoDB is an equal opportunities employer. Req ID: 3273579829.
