Puzzle Solver (Coding) at micro1 — remote job on CafeRemote

micro1 is hiring puzzle solvers for an AI training project. The work is solving self-contained coding and technical challenges that test advanced AI models, and it is fully remote worldwide. This suits someone with strong algorithmic problem-solving skills who can work independently in a terminal and explain their reasoning clearly.

This is a contractor role of about 15 hours per week, and you choose your own hours and days, including weekends if you want. Pay is $50 to $80 per hour.

What you will do

  • Solve self-contained coding, logic, debugging, and technical reasoning challenges.
  • Analyze unfamiliar problems and turn their requirements into implementable solutions.
  • Choose appropriate algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Work inside terminal-based development environments and existing codebases.
  • Implement correct and efficient solutions in an appropriate programming language.
  • Identify ambiguous requirements, edge cases, hidden assumptions, and failure conditions.
  • Debug incorrect behavior across code, tests, dependencies, and environment configuration.
  • Develop tests and verification methods that separate genuinely correct solutions from superficially plausible ones.
  • Review AI-generated solutions and find logic errors, incomplete reasoning, and constraint violations.
  • Produce clear, reproducible solutions that can be executed and evaluated automatically.
  • Explain reasoning, implementation decisions, and trade-offs clearly.

A representative task may involve exploring an unfamiliar codebase or terminal environment, understanding a precise objective, implementing a solution, testing it against hidden or explicit constraints, and producing a reproducible final result.

What they are looking for

  • Strong algorithmic problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as C++, Python, Java, Rust, Go, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of common data structures and algorithms.
  • Ability to reason carefully about constraints, complexity, edge cases, and correctness.
  • Experience debugging unfamiliar code or solving technically ambiguous problems.
  • Ability to work independently in terminal-based development environments.
  • Ability to produce reproducible, testable software solutions.
  • Clear written and verbal technical communication.

A public or otherwise verifiable Codeforces profile showing meaningful competitive-programming experience is nice to have.

Pay and hours

Pay is $50 to $80 per hour. Compensation is output-based: experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. How long each task takes varies with the expert's experience and workflow. The role is a contractor position of roughly 15 hours per week, and the schedule is flexible. You pick the hours and days you work, including weekends if you prefer. Minimum submission requirements apply.

Location

The role is global and fully remote.

Process

  1. Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
  2. Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
  3. Complete a technical assessment, if required.
  4. Complete the hiring manager review.

Start timeline

Roles are typically filled within 48 hours, and micro1 is looking for experts ready to begin immediately. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24 to 48 hours of completing onboarding.
