Product Marketing Manager at Tailscale — remote job on CafeRemote

Tailscale is hiring a Product Marketing Manager to work with product, marketing, and revenue teams. The role is about understanding customers, figuring out how to explain why Tailscale matters, and turning that into material the sales team can use. It is a fit for someone who knows PAM, networking infrastructure, or enterprise security and can translate technical features into benefits that are easy to follow.

Tailscale was founded in 2019 and is fully distributed. The company builds software that connects people and their devices securely, and it is used by hobbyists and multinational corporations alike. It is backed by Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital.

What you will do

  • Become the expert on users and customers: who they are, what their pain points are, and what drives them to look for solutions
  • Work with sales, product, and marketing teams to develop and refine product positioning, messaging, and content
  • Launch new products or features, manage the cross-functional projects that go with a launch, and measure the revenue and pipeline it generates
  • Create sales collateral and enablement materials such as slide decks, one-pagers, training sessions, customer case studies, and webinars, delegating to and working with designers, web developers, and content marketers as needed
  • Do competitive and market analysis to inform messaging and campaigns and to influence product strategy
  • Represent product marketing at industry events by giving demos and gathering customer and prospect insights to shape messaging and campaign strategy
  • Help drive sales pipeline

What they are looking for

  • At least 5+ years of experience in product marketing, working with sales teams, and sales enablement
  • A proven track record in marketing, product marketing, sales enablement, product management, or a related field, with a minimum of 5+ years of direct experience
  • An affinity for complex, highly technical subjects
  • Experience managing interdependent, complex projects and keeping multiple work streams on track
  • An analytical, data-driven mindset with enthusiasm for problem-solving and measuring the effectiveness of your work
  • The ability to adapt and react quickly to changing plans and ambiguity
  • Excellent people skills, since the role interacts with many cross-functional teams and requires effective communication and negotiation
  • A bias toward action, execution, and iteration

Nice to have

  • Startup experience
  • Experience with networking or security products used in SaaS or cloud environments

Pay and location

The location is the United States. The pay range for this role is USD 144,000 to 177,000 per year. Tailscale says its compensation package includes base salary, equity, and benefits, and that individual offers may vary based on experience and skill set.

Because Tailscale is an early-stage, fully remote company, the person in this role needs to be comfortable working asynchronously and thriving in ambiguity, with a focus on getting it right rather than being right.

What Tailscale offers

  • An inclusive, flexible environment where you can be your authentic self
  • A competitive total compensation package with a base salary, an equity incentive plan, and variable commission for quota-based roles
  • Group benefits with no waiting period, including health, vision, and dental coverage for you and your family
  • Remote-first work, with virtual and in-person social events and a corporate co-working program for WeWork or similar spaces near you. Some roles require in-office collaboration depending on team needs, which will be noted in the job description
  • Employer-funded retirement contributions, matched dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum annual employer contribution equal to 0.75% of eligible compensation
  • An annual company retreat, team off-sites, and in-person collaboration with teammates across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore
  • $1500 USD annually for professional development, plus mentorship, coaching, and internal promotion opportunities
  • A flexible, paid time off program
  • A build-your-own home office setup: your choice of a company-owned Mac or PC, a monthly home internet reimbursement, and $500 USD to customize your workstation
  • Paid parental leave top-ups: 20 weeks for birthing parents and 16 weeks for non-birthing parents

Tailscale says it is committed to an accessible and inclusive hiring process and will provide accommodations at any stage of recruitment if needed. Its hiring process uses AI-assisted tools to screen and assess candidates, and all hiring decisions are made by people.
