Senior Modular Estimator (Structural Steel) at Peoplegig — remote job on CafeRemote

Peoplegig is hiring a Senior Modular Estimator (Structural Steel) for a fully remote role in the United States. The job is roughly 60% estimating and 40% coordination and project support, and it suits someone with solid structural steel estimating fundamentals who can work independently while staying in close contact with drafting, production, and project teams. Modular construction experience helps but is not required, and the company says it will train the right candidate.

What you will do

Estimating takes up about 60% of the role:

  • Prepare cost estimates, BOQs, and quantity take-offs from structural, fabrication, architectural, and engineering drawings.
  • Review project documentation and flag scope gaps, risks, and cost considerations.
  • Read shop drawings and fabrication details to build commercially competitive estimates.
  • Prepare and manage tender submissions to deadline.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Keep pricing records and estimating documentation accurate.
  • Help improve estimating processes and pricing accuracy.

The other 40% is coordination and project support:

  • Coordinate with drafting, procurement, engineering, and production teams on project handovers.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on scope, timelines, and technical requirements.
  • Review drawings and documentation for constructability and commercial accuracy.
  • Raise questions, clarify requirements, and spot potential issues before pricing.
  • Coordinate changes, variations, and documentation through the estimating process.

What they are looking for

Required:

  • At least 5 years of estimating experience in structural steel, fabrication, construction, or related industries.
  • Strong experience preparing quantity take-offs and BOQs.
  • Ability to interpret structural, fabrication, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates at once and meet deadlines.

Nice to have:

  • Drafting experience.
  • Experience supporting modular or prefabricated construction projects.
  • Exposure to CostX or similar estimating software.
  • Experience on international or global construction projects. Australian experience is advantageous but not required.

They want someone proactive and naturally curious, comfortable asking questions and pushing back on unclear project information, self-motivated, detail-oriented with commercial awareness, collaborative across teams, and willing to learn new systems and processes.

Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Australian time.
  • Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Australian time.
  • 38 hours per week.

What they offer

  • Fully remote work setup.
  • Company-issued laptop and phone.
  • HMO from Day 1.
  • Christmas Shutdown Leave (SIL).
  • The chance to work with an established Australian engineering company.
  • Training and development in modular construction and company-specific estimating processes.
