Netflix is hiring a Staff Product Designer for its Developer Platform, the team that builds the tools Netflix engineers use to develop, ship, and operate software. This role is for a designer with a decade or more of product design experience who has worked on developer tools, platforms, or other deeply technical products. You would design the interfaces and workflows that let engineers spend less time fighting their tools and more time building.
The position is based in the United States. Pay is a salary of USD 460,000 to 710,000 per year, and the range varies by location.
What you will do
You will lead design strategy for developer platform initiatives and work on problems like how developers find and use platform services, how technical workflows get turned into usable interfaces, and how the whole development lifecycle fits together.
- Design a unified developer portal and navigation
- Work on development workflows and automation
- Design AI-powered experiences with contextual insights and recommendations
- Build tools for developer productivity and efficiency
- Design system observability and troubleshooting interfaces
Day to day, that means driving design from start to finish for complex technical workflows, building and testing prototypes, defining design patterns that hold up across the platform, and setting realistic scope with your partners. You would also mentor other designers in technical product design.
You will work with product managers, engineers, and researchers, run design workshops with technical stakeholders, and present your work to senior leadership. Much of the job is leading through influence rather than authority, keeping experiences coherent across platform teams.
What they are looking for
- 10+ years as a product designer or equivalent experience
- Experience designing developer tools, platforms, or other technical products
- A portfolio showing complex system design and technical product work
- A track record of leading design initiatives from concept to launch
- Expert use of Figma and prototyping tools
- Strong systems thinking and the ability to design solutions that scale
- Experience leading design strategy for complex technical products
- Success influencing cross-functional partners without direct authority
- Skill at explaining design decisions to technical audiences
- Experience mentoring designers and improving team practices
- Ability to work autonomously and drive initiatives on your own
- Skill at sequencing a long-term vision into incremental steps
Technical background
- Knowledge of software development processes, practices, toolchains, and cloud or devops
- Familiarity with modern development practices and platforms
- Experience turning complex technical concepts into intuitive interfaces
- Experience with interactive data visualization and complex system representations
- Experience with dashboard design and information architecture for technical products
- Understanding of infrastructure automation concepts and what they mean for UX
- Ability to collaborate with engineers; coding skills are not required
- AI/ML-enhanced user experience work is a plus
Pay and benefits
Compensation is an annual salary only; Netflix does not pay bonuses. Each year you choose how much of your compensation comes as salary versus stock options. The range for this role is $460,000.00 to $710,000.00, and it varies based on location.
Benefits include health plans, mental health support, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, a stock option program, disability programs, health savings and flexible spending accounts, family-forming benefits, and life and serious injury benefits. There are paid leave of absence programs. Salaried full-time employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.
Netflix notes that the job is open for no less than 7 days and will be removed when the position is filled.
