Netflix is hiring a Data Engineer (L5) for its Ads Data Engineering team, based in the United States. The team builds the data ecosystem that powers Netflix's understanding of how ads affect the business, with data products covering ad inventories, forecasting, targeting, ad serving, and pacing. Netflix says it is hiring for several roles on this team, ranging from senior to staff level.
What you will do
- Architect, strengthen, and expand the core data products that scale the Ads business, working with other data engineers to fit data from multiple sources together and then execute on that plan.
- Own critical portions of Netflix's Ads data products. Work with stakeholders to understand needs, model tables using software engineering and data warehouse practices, and develop large-scale data processing solutions so high-quality data arrives on time.
- Partner with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to create data products that serve analysis, ML, and reporting needs.
- Develop practices for governing data sets that contain sensitive information.
- Build collaborative partnerships with data scientists, analytics engineers, and Machine Learning practitioners.
What they are looking for
- Curious, creative, and tenacious engineers with strong data intuition and an analytical mindset.
- A sharp communicator who can break down and explain complex data problems in clear, concise language.
- Extensive background and strong technical expertise working with data at scale, plus an understanding of how to build for privacy and business impact. Experience with advertising data is preferred.
- High tolerance for ambiguity and fast-changing context.
- Hands-on experience building batch or streaming production data pipelines, ideally with one or more distributed processing frameworks such as Spark, Flink, or Hive/Hadoop.
- Knowledge of data modeling and establishing data architecture across multiple systems.
- Comfort in a fast-paced environment, and a view of yourself as a partner with the business.
- Code that is understandable, simple, and clean.
- Ability to self-direct given context.
- Passion for data quality and delivering effective data that affects the business.
What they ideally want you to know
- Domains related to advertising, data privacy, and GDPR.
- Data warehousing, data modeling, and data transformation for both batch and streaming.
- Programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, plus data exploration using SQL.
- Building performant data pipelines and optimizing existing workflows for new features.
- Big data tech including Hadoop, Spark, Flink, stream processing, Hive, and Presto.
- Sourcing and modeling data from application APIs.
- Team-based software development tools and practices.
