Software Engineering Manager - Global UX - Applications - Platform

Elastic is hiring a Software Engineering Manager for Global UX, based in Portugal. You would manage the engineering team behind Elastic UI (EUI), the company's design system and React component library, plus the shared patterns, tokens, and tools that keep Elastic products consistent, accessible, and high-quality. This role is for someone who has led design system or platform teams and can balance long-term investment with the steady stream of requests from other teams.

You would work closely with the team's Tech Lead, who owns technical direction and architecture. Your side is the people, the roadmap, and delivery.

What you will do

• Manage and grow a team of engineers who build and maintain EUI and other shared design system infrastructure across Global UX.
• Own the team's delivery cadence: sprint planning, the quarterly roadmap, outcomes, and status reporting to stakeholders across Elastic.
• Run hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career growth for the engineers on the team.
• Build team culture and health in a fully distributed, async-first environment.
• Represent Global UX in cross-functional planning with engineering, design, and product leadership.
• Remove blockers: negotiate dependencies with other teams, address organizational friction, and escalate risks early.
• Track adoption and health metrics for the design system (usage, satisfaction, migration progress) and use them to set roadmap priorities.
• Build relationships with teams that consume the design system, gather their feedback, and make sure their needs shape the roadmap.
• Support the team's experiments with AI-assisted design-to-code workflows and developer tools, balancing innovation against delivery commitments.

What they are looking for

• Experience managing engineering teams that build and maintain design systems, component libraries, or similarly widely-used shared UI or platform infrastructure.
• Experience running delivery cadence: sprint planning, quarterly planning, roadmapping, and outcomes for a team serving many internal stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of frontend engineering (React, TypeScript, component architecture), enough to make credible technical tradeoffs alongside your Tech Lead and engineers.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineers, with a track record of growing people into more senior roles.
• Strong stakeholder management skills. Comfortable sharing the roadmap, tradeoffs, and risks with engineering, design, and product leaders.
• A track record of balancing platform and foundational investment against urgent feature requests from consuming teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with experience in a distributed, async-first team.
• Experience using data and adoption metrics (usage, satisfaction, migration progress) to inform roadmap decisions.
• A collaborative leadership style that earns trust from your engineering team without needing to be the most technical person in the room.
• Curiosity about how AI is changing design-to-code workflows and developer tooling, and comfort helping a team adopt new practices responsibly.

Pay

Compensation for this role is base salary only, with no variable component. Elastic sets salary ranges using external market benchmarks, internal pay equity, and the responsibilities and complexity of each role. The final offer within the applicable range depends on relevant professional experience, skills and expertise, alignment with the role requirements, and the scope and complexity of the position.
