AI Product Engineer at Distru — remote job on CafeRemote

Distru is hiring an AI Product Engineer to work directly with the CTO and build a new agentic product from the ground up. The role is for someone who has shipped multi-agent systems in production and is comfortable acting as both engineer and product owner. This is a fully remote position open to candidates in the United States, with a salary of USD 120,000 – 200,000 per year.

What you will do

You will architect and build an agentic harness that connects the tools businesses already use to run their operations, including ERP, CRM, spreadsheets, calendars, email, analytics, and compliance systems. The goal is to change how those businesses interface with their own data and systems.

  • Build a multi-agent system in production that can safely operate across a business's core tools.
  • Build and maintain MCPs (Model Context Protocol integrations) that connect the harness to real business systems.
  • Own production concerns end-to-end: reliability, observability, permissions, and safe workflow execution. The system will take real actions on customers' data.
  • Define scope, make architecture calls, and drive execution with minimal oversight, since there is no existing playbook.
  • Design for the user, not just the architecture, prioritizing how the product actually gets used.
  • Raise risks and open questions before they become blockers, and bring structured solutions.
  • Keep pace with agent frameworks, harness toolkits, and MCP standards, and bring in better approaches as they emerge.
  • Work hands-on with tools like Claude Code as part of your own build process.

The tech stack includes LangGraph, Next.js, React, Prisma, and Claude Code. You will report directly to the CTO and work closely with product, engineering, and design.

What they are looking for

  • 5+ years of full-stack development experience, ideally in B2B SaaS applications.
  • Hands-on experience building multi-agent harnesses in production, not just prototypes or personal projects.
  • Experience building MCPs that are actually used in production.
  • A strong grasp of production system concerns: reliability, observability, permissions, and safe workflow execution.
  • Experience across both product and engineering, with comfort owning scoping and decision-making, not just implementation.
  • Proficiency in modern technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and LangGraph, with the ability to pick up new tools and frameworks quickly.
  • Startup agility: experience at an early-stage startup (under 20 engineers) where you operated effectively in ambiguous, unstructured environments.
  • A low-ego, team-first mentality, measuring success by what shipped and whether it worked.
  • Clear, proactive communication, raising concerns and proposing solutions before being asked.

Nice to have: a background in supply chain, ERP, CRM, B2B marketplaces, or accounting software; experience with UX design; familiarity with agentic systems and multi-agent orchestration beyond the above, such as evaluation frameworks or agent-to-agent protocols; experience using Claude Code or similar tools to build products independently; and cannabis industry experience.
