Business Development Manager, Central Region at CompScience — remote job on CafeRemote

CompScience is hiring a Business Development Manager for the Central Region. The role is remote, with travel, and focuses on building relationships with insurance brokers who might sell CompScience's computer vision products for workers' compensation. It suits someone with a background in workers' comp sales who is comfortable cold calling, running their own territory, and working from home.

CompScience was founded in 2019. The company's product teams come from Amazon R&D, Meta, and the self-driving car industry, and its insurance team works alongside them to turn analytics into insurance products. The company's stated mission is to prevent 1 million workplace injuries.

What you will do

  • Identify and target insurance brokers who could become clients.
  • Build relationships with those brokers with the goal of having them sell CompScience solutions.
  • Develop and carry out plans to hit sales targets and expand market share in a geographic territory.
  • Work with underwriters to generate revenue with targeted brokers and agencies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, proposals, and product demonstrations.
  • Work with internal teams to smooth implementation and delivery for clients.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders at insurance brokerages.
  • Understand customer needs and tailor proposals to them.
  • Keep up with industry trends, competitors, and market conditions to find growth opportunities.

What they are looking for

  • At least 5 years in business development or sales, focused on workers' compensation.
  • Experience cold calling and prospecting for new leads.
  • Experience selling to insurance brokers or similar stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of how the insurance industry works. Workers' comp sales experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel 50-60% of the time.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, not required.

Location and travel

This is a remote position. Travel is 25-50% primarily within the Central Region, including Chicago and Wisconsin. The required experience section lists travel at 50-60% of the time.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range is $120,000 to $150,000. Pay within the range depends on your qualifications and experience. The total package also includes equity and benefits.

  • Health benefits: medical, dental, vision, HSA
  • 401(k) plan and life insurance
  • Flexible time off and 12 weeks parental leave
  • Remote-first culture with home office support
  • Professional development reimbursement
  • A fast-paced startup environment where ideas can quickly become reality
  • Chances to take on work beyond your job description

Who fits here

  • Someone who works well in a fast-paced startup and is comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Someone who wants to wear multiple hats and grow quickly.
  • Someone committed to the mission of saving lives through technology.
